Grand Master Eugene Humesky: Eulogy

It is with profound sadness that the Musa Tang Soo Do Federation has learned of the passing of Grand Master Eugene Humesky. The Martial Arts world has lost a significant leader among leaders and our Federation has lost a long-time friend and supporter. He was a fixture at our annual Tournament providing a distinction to it and many of our senior members have had the distinction of knowing the Grand Master for many, many years. We have all benefitted greatly from his knowledge, his wisdom, and his example and we will miss him very much. Our collective sympathies are extended to the entire Humesky family and this certainly includes our brothers and sisters in the Universal Tae Kwan Do Brotherhood. We hope you find some solace in the following message:

Grand Master Humesky was a historical visionary, very much in the spirit of Yin and Yang. He treasured the ethics of the traditional arts and sought to shape the future of the Art he loved. He dedicated his life to the idea of a collective Tae Kwon Do, one “united within diversity,” acknowledging and celebrating the common foundations of style above the distinctions of Federations or Clubs. He realized that placing more relevance on Where and with Who one trained was not nearly as important was What one was taught.

The tenants of the Martial Arts revolve around “respect.” Respect is valued so much because it is earned, it is practiced, and it is bestowed.

Martial Artists have “reverence” for what they teach, how they teach it, and for what they say and do as Martial Artists.
Nothing, or no one, prevails or prospers over a lifetime without “righteousness”, en embodiment of character, integrity, and rectitude.

So when Musa members speak or think of Grand Master Eugene Humesky, it has been, and always will be…with Respect, with Reverence, and as Righteous. His life of immeasurable contributions to that which we have all dedicated so much of our lives to…can only be surpassed by his legacy. Perhaps this is indeed, the greatest honor a man can receive…to be remembered as so significant in so many lives. We have the honorable distinction of being a part of that legacy, one that carries within it, the same respect, reverence, and righteousness that called us all to the Arts, and, now, places forever, Grand Master Eugene Humesky in our hearts.
There is but one thing left to do, and one thing left to say.
We bow…and offer a final “Kam sah ham ni day, Kwan Jang Nym.”

Thank you for the lesson.
